Hansen, Gerald E. age 87, returned "home" on Saturday, July 10, 2010 at Keystone Living Community in Mankato. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m., Wednesday, July 14, 2010 at Pax Christi Catholic Community, 12100 Pioneer Trail, Eden Prairie, MN. Burial will be in Ft. Mankato Mortuary is in charge of arrangements. Gerald was born April 9, 1923 to Martin and Johanna (Jensen) Hansen in Melrose. He attended St. Cloud State University and graduated from St. John's University, Collegeville, MN. During World War II he served as a pharmacist's mate at Alea Heights Hospital, Hawaii and the Midway Island. After his military service, Gerald was employed for 37 years at Honeywell as a production engineer. After retiring from Honeywell, Gerald and Renee spent summers at their lake home in Nisswa and winters at their home in Naples, Florida. They moved to Mankato in 2006 to be closer to family for health reasons. Jim died peacefully on June 16, 2010 at Mayo Clinic in Rochester, MN as a result of complications following surgery. Jim attended St. Ignatius High School and graduated from DePaul University - both in Chicago. He was the first college graduate in his family and saw to it that all 6 of his children were also. He joined the army in 1952 and was selected to serve in the US Counter-Intelligence Corps. He was stationed in Germany while being trained in Intelligence and attending German Language School. Jim became fluent in German and made many life-long friends during his time in the army. Jim married Katy on December 26, 1956 in Chicago. In 1958, Jim and Katy moved to MN where they made their home in Edina and raised their children. Jim was a gifted salesman in the Treated Paper industry. He and a partner later formed their own firm and Jim represented them in Europe. Jim was an avid life-long photographer and was active in photo-club competition, frequently winning awards for his work. He was often sought after as a judge for such competitions. Jim was 100% Irish and very proud of it. He was the creator of the world-famous St. Patrick's Day party @ 6700 West Trail, Edina (you know, oysters, corned beef and cabbage, Irish coffee etc.) The guests learned to dance the SIEGE OF ENNIS and marched through the neighborhood at midnight to the music of a full bagpipe band. Jim was known for his intelligence and tremendous sense of humor. Jim was a world traveler and instilled this love in his children. Jim often traveled to distant and unusual places. Many will be left to speculate on when, if ever, his Intelligence work ended. Survived by wife, Mary Catherine "Katy"; children, Nora (Nick) Weir of Chicago, Mary (Doug) Bushard of Eden Prairie, Jack Sullivan of Hopkins, Gavin Sullivan of Eden Prairie, Patrick (Heather) Sullivan of Edina and Kelly (Steve) Burns of Denver; grandchildren, Ryann, Dylan, Siobhan, Cohen, Margaret, Joey, Sean, Rory and Fionnula. Wyers, Joseph H. age 78 of Eden Prairie, MN. Passed away on May 7, 2010. Richter, Helen Sophie Born 4/21/29, in Norwood, MN, passed away peacefully at the Heather's Manor, Crystal, MN, 5/7/10. Graduated from Norwood-Young America in 1947. Received her bachelor's degree from the College of St. Benedict in 1951 and then interned at the U. of Cincinnati Medical Center as a dietitian. In 1971 she graduated with a master's in Institution Management from Iowa State U. After careers in health, real estate, and at Merrill Lynch, she retired to pursue volunteer activities at her church and in the community. She enjoyed travel, family and friends, her garden and all animals. Preceded in death by her parents, Agatha and John Richter. Helen will be missed by her family and many friends. Ficken, Richard "Dick" 78, Eden Prairie, died 4/25/10. Surived by loving wife, Carol; cherished daughter, Nancy; step- daughter, Betsy Fruth; granddaughter, Molly. Preceded in death by parents, Charles and Mary and stepson, Karl Fruth. Dick was born and raised in St. Paul. After serving 5 years in the US Airforce he returned to St. Paul and worked with former governor, Rolvaag. After joining the Erle Savage Ad Agency he secured the "State of MN" advertising and marketing account. 13 years later he moved to Mankato to work at Johnson Reels before opening his own Agency, Dick Ficken and Assc. Dick will be missed by mother-in-law, Marion; and Carol's sisters and their spouses, along with many nieces, nephews and cousins. Thank you to Allina Hospice for their kind service to Dick. Gallea, Loretta M. (Green) Age 85, of Eden Prairie, MN, passed away peacefully on Easter Sunday, April 4, 2010. Born Sept. 9, 1924 in Anoka, MN. Preceded in death by parents, Joseph and Helen Green, and brother William. Survived by husband, James; children, William (Jeanne) of Helena, MT, Barbara (Joseph) of Minnetonka, Richard (Mary) of Eden Prairie; grandchildren, James of Portland, ME, Brian of Layton, UT, Rachel & Joseph of Eden Prairie; sister, Helen of Sarasota, FL; brother, Jerry of Sunrise, AZ, and many nieces and nephews, including her "second daughter" Rita Kach of Bloomington. Loretta was raised in Cedar, MN until 9th grade, attending school in a one-room schoolhouse. She graduated from Anoka HS in 1941 at age 16. During WWII, she worked for Northern Pump, making supplies in support of the war effort. After one year at the U of M, Loretta pursued a new opportunity as a stewardess for Chicago & Southern and Mid-Continent Airlines, where she flew DC-3s in routes through the Midwest and South. Loretta married James Gallea on June 19, 1948 and they celebrated their 61st anniversary in 2009. While Loretta could have pursued any number of interesting career options, she opted to stay home and devote her considerable energy to raising her children. When they were older, Loretta joined Nash Finch Company and rose to the position of executive secretary before her retirement in 1985. Throughout her life, Loretta was noted for a remarkable "can do" attitude that allowed her to overcome obstacles that would be daunting to many. Despite developing multiple sclerosis in her 40s, she was determined to pursue all of her favorite activities, including golf, bridge and spending time with family and friends. Condon, Richard Francis 88 of Naples, Florida, formerly of Eden Prairie, died on Friday; morning, March 26, 2010 at Naples Community Hospital. He was born in St. Paul, Minnesota to Viola (Schiltz) and Benjamin Condon. Dick graduated from Saint James grade school and was president of Monroe High School's first senior class in 1940. While attending the University of Minnesota, he joined the United States Naval Academy at Pensacola, Florida and spent five years during WWII as a naval flight instructor at Pensacola. In 1950, he joined the Naegele Advertising Company and during the ensuing 38 years, became a partner, president, CEO and Chairman of the Board. Following the sale of the company and his retirement he divided his time between Eden Prairie, Minnesota and Naples, Florida. He is survived by his daughter, Teresa and her husband, Brian Cates of Naples, FL; three stepsons, Richard Hanson of Bemidji, MN; Dale Hanson of Minneapolis and Michael Hanson of Chaska, MN; six grandchildren, Phillip and Michael Cates, Sarah, Zachary, Richard and Brandon Hanson. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Rita Parnell Condon and his second wife Gwendolyn Bergstrom Condon. Graham, Thomas J. age 77, passed away peacefully at home on February 18th. Born in St. Cloud, Minnesota, Tom was a long- time resident of Bloomington, Minnesota. Tom graduated from the University of Minnesota but was often heard to say "I got my education from St. John's". Tom spent 40 years doing what he loved best, developing land throughout the Twin Cities area. Even though Tom endured countless health issues during his last years, he faced them courageously and with an unwavering faith in God. His kindness and generosity were felt by many. Despite his health battles, Tom's light-hearted humor and pride in his family and heritage endured. Tom's love for gardening, animals, cooking, music and the North Country will live on in us all. His faith kept him fighting, this faith will help us carry on. Preceded in death by parents, John and Magdalen; brothers, Jimmy, Bernie and Donie; sister, Helen Schnobrich. John became a pilot during the 1930's "Barnstorming" era and continued a long life in aviation. He also worked as a mechanic/inspector for NWA for 37 years, retiring in 1979. John was an outstanding craftsman, engineering and building everything from steam engines to air planes. One of his greatest achievements during his life was raising his family. Olsen, Delphine Isabell age 85, of Bloomington, departed from this life on January 26, 2010. She was born in Minneapolis to Laura and Edward Olsen. She was preceded in death by her parents; her brothers, Clarence "Ozzie" Olsen and Lloyd Olsen; and her sister, Helen Olsen Kelley. Jane Norris was born on Christmas Day, 1917 and died December 29, 2009. Preceded in death by her parents Clifford and Ruth Malley; William C. Norris, her husband of 61 years; Willa Norris, her dear sister-in-law; John Malley, her beloved uncle; and Collin Keck, her grandson. Survived by eight children, Bill (Linda), George, Dan (Pat), Brian (Patty), Connie (Greg) Van Hoven, Roger (Jean), Mary (Tom) Keck and David (Erin); twenty-one grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. Also survived by her sisters, Patricia Zimmer and Jacqueline Malley; nephew William Buffett; and cousins, Jeff Malley, Erin Mathias, Kathleen Montague and Wallace Malley. Jane grew up in Parkersburg, W. Va. She graduated from the University of Cincinnati with a degree in education and was one of the first kindergarten teachers in the state of W. Va. Jane was also a member of the first class of WAVE officers to be graduated and commissioned at Smith College, Northampton, MA in 1943. She was assigned duty at the Naval Communications Annex in Washington, DC, where she met her husband. The family would like to thank Jane's kind caregivers, especially Courtney and Katy. Jim was an active member of SCORE (Service Corps of Retired Executive), the Banks Retired Employees Club, and the BAJ's (Born Again Jocks). Over the years he participated in a number of organizations and fund-raising activities including the United Way of Minneapolis and the Boy Scouts of America. Cassidy, William "Bill" J. age 91 of Shorewood died peacefully on July 31, 2009 surrounded by his loving family. Bill was born on May 24th, 1918 in Queens, NY. Bill is survived by his loving wife of 70 years, Shirley and his six children: Michael John (Patricia) Cassidy, William Thomas (Patricia) Cassidy, Mary Ellen (Robert) Mullholand, Thersea Florence Cassidy, John Whitney (Sophal) Cassidy and Christopher Cassidy; grandchildren: Deborah (Bo) Sommers, Michael (Dorothy) Cassidy, James (Pamela) Cassidy, William (Peggy) Cassidy, Matthew (Mandy) Mullholand, Daniel Mullholand, Jessica (Bradley) Teach and John (Victoria) Cassidy and ten great- grandchildren. Bill worked for over 45 years in New York City as a construction worker and just celebrated his 70 anniversary as a proud member of the International Union of Operating Engineers, Local #15. A person of few words, Bill was a dedicated worker, skilled at his job and willing to teach those members that followed his lead. He was dedicated to his wife and family and left this legacy to his children: "Never forget where you come from" and "Take care of each other!" He will be sadly missed by his children, grandchildren and great- grandchildren.
