*Pax Christi Justice Grant Recipient for 2008 in the amount of $50,000 This organization fits easily with our community grant-making mission. While they do provide a shelter, they have eight other programs that range from Family Services, Human Rights Advocacy, Street Outreach, Ex-offender programs, and on and on. They are energetic, articulate, focused on ending homelessness, and growing their base of support. They are strong supporters of the Heading Home Hennepin program which allows us to support the overall mission while channeling our financial and volunteer support through the St Stephen's organization. There are a range of options for us to support both financially and with our Pax Christi parishioners as volunteers. The scope and scale of our involvement will take more planning. They have very effective leaders who will help educate Pax Christi parishioners on the issues of affordable housing and ending homelessness.
What is St. Stephen's Human Services? Their mission is simple: To end homelessness. There is a philosophy of how they work with the people who come to them for help. They “meet them where they are.” No matter how insurmountable their problems may seem, together they start where the person is and go forward, building on their strengths and successes.

*What is a Justice Grant Recipient? Since Pax Christi Catholic Community was founded just over 25 years ago, the community has set aside a portion of its weekly Sunday collection, which now stands at 10%. These funds support works of mercy and justice in the wider Minneapolis/St. Paul metropolitan area and beyond. The majority of the Justice Tithe is distributed through the Pax Christi Justice Grants Program. $2 million in grants have been made to nonprofit organizations since 1995. All Justice Grants are made for purposes that reflect Roman Catholic social teaching and moral standards.
